Winter is obviously a quiet time of year for a British naturist venue, so it’s a good time to get on with jobs that need doing to improve facilities. This winter was no exception here at Acorns in Devon.

Since we opened six years ago we have constantly been improving the place and up until now, have had a games barn and lounge for campers to use, but they were basic. The games barn was a barn, with some games in it and we would like to thank guests for putting up with the primitive feel. But not any more, we have converted the old cow shed into a new facility offering panoramic views of the site and the glorious Devonshire countryside, to Dartmoor in the distance through floor to ceiling double glazed windows. (Dartmoor was there to start with, we didn’t do that !)  The whole area is heated by an old fashioned pot belly stove, giving a warm cosy feel, even in the worst of weather.

With the building’s history being that of a cow shed we have tried to retain the theme, but not the smell. To this end we have decorated the space with old farming implements, even turning old milking machine parts into lighting, and re using the old roof timbers to make book shelves etc. we have even called it “The Cow Shed” a title we came up with all by ourselves. It just came to us in a flash of inspiration.

resized_cow shed 009The cows have been removed and replaced by a games area, with table tennis, free pool table and darts board. Exercise area with multi gym, plus other machines of physical torture and a nice comfortable lounge area create a great place to just sit and relax, or take advantage of the numerous games, puzzles and books on offer.

Free Wi-Fi is accessible for those in need of communication with the rest of the planet, so you can sit here and enjoy the ambiance, whilst pretending to be stuck in the office working your socks off (and the rest of your clothes !) We can even give you a discreet VAT receipt with no mention of naturist, so your boss need never know your secret.

Our on-site honesty shop has also moved into the building, giving guests the opportunity to get stocked up on basic provisions, have a cuppa and ice cream all whilst admiring the view. (Hopefully the person who stole half a jar of coffee and then put the jar back on the shelf, will be more honest if they come again ! Yes, they really did. )

This new facility not only offers every visitor a great place to be when it’s not sun bathing weather but also gives us the chance to put on special events such as Charlie Simonds photography master class in June, a life drawing day in May, a craft weekend in July and a pig roast in August.

Evening meals in the farm house are always available by arrangement and this year on most Saturday evenings we are offering cheaper bar snack type meals in the Cow Shed. Things like home made pizza or ham, egg and chips . This gives a greater number of guests the chance to get together and not have to bother about cooking. This is proving very popular.

We also plan on holding social evenings twice a month through the winter. These will be held on the first and third Sunday of each month, starting on September 8th. The evening will include sauna, hot tub, use of the Cow shed, plus bar snacks, soft and alcoholic drinks will be available for a very reasonable extra cost. Keep an eye on our website for further details or give us a call.
